Siff 2013 | 10th Edition

Tricase September 7 - 15, 2013

From 7 to 15 September 2013 the Salento International Film Festival maintains its annual appointment with the celebration of International Independent Cinema, presenting its X edition. With its international project which is defined by the high quality of the contents and the careful research work in the field of contemporary cultural expressions, the Salento International Film Festival once again confirms itself as one of the most anticipated and prestigious events of the Tricasese summer.

SIFF was born in 2004 in Tricase, in Salento, the “Gateway to the East”: a land that has always represented a melting pot of cultures and traditions from East to West, thanks to the different civilizations that have lived and left a mark on the culture of this region. The history and natural beauty of Tricase and Salento create the splendid setting for an event that speaks of distant worlds. All screenings will take place in the courtyard and in the Throne Room of the Palazzo Dei Principi Gallone, the most sumptuous monument of Tricase and its cultural centre. The tenth edition will start on Saturday 7 September, with a pre-opening day dedicated to the Algerian director Rachid Benhadj and the celebration of 3 of his featured films: “Dialogues between Different Cultures and Religions”. The festival will begin at 5pm with the film “The Tree of Suspended Destinies” (1997), will be followed at 7pm by “Mirka” (2000) and will close at 9.15pm with the film “The Naked Bread” (2005). Rachid Benhadj will meet the audience after the screening of “Naked Bread”, and the audience will have the opportunity to discuss with him any curiosity they may have about the central idea of the films and the director’s artistic choices.

The 9 feature films in competition will be screened from 8 to 14 September.
The competition will officially open on Sunday 8 September and the 134th anniversary of the birth of the “Centaur of the North”, Francisco (Pancho) Villa, will also be celebrated with the screening of the Mexican film “Apasionato Pancho Villa” and the patronage of the Mexican Embassy . which opens the tenth edition of SIFF at 9.30pm. The film directed by Maria de Lourdes Deschamps and Andres Bueno is based on the novel “Itinerary of a Passion” and tells the love stories of General Pancho Villa, his 19 marriages and his revolutionary actions in defense of his country.
The celebrations for the tenth anniversary of SIFF will end on Saturday 14 September at 9.30pm with the screening of the Spanish film “Muertos de Amor” (Italian premiere), the first work by Mikel Aguirresarobe, who obtained 17 nominations at the 2013 Goyas Awards, the Spanish equivalent of the American Academy Awards. It is a tragic comedy in which the complications of a love triangle are unraveled through the irony of life.
The film is based on the novel “Muertos de Amor” by Charles Caneque, and is a story of love and heartbreak, betrayal and pain, jealousy and above all a slightly humorous analysis of the unhealthy sense of possession that some men develop towards their partners .to the United States.
