Based on real events, the film follows a daring undercover investigation by a major news organization. Reporter Kay, driven by a haunting tip, infiltrates the Rainbow Bridge Care Home, posing as a staff member. Inside, she discovers not only systemic abuse but also a conspiracy of silence, as she unravels the layers of deception and cruelty hidden in plain sight. This gripping narrative explores the stark realities faced by the disabled, spotlighting the bravery required to bring such stories to light under the harsh glare of broad daylight.
DIRECTOR STATMENT
In 2016, news of abuse in a residential care home for the disabled shocked Hong Kong and drew anger from all sectors of society. We live in pursuit of social stability and prosperity, but some people can’t even live with basic essentials and fundamental human dignity. This report remained deeply imprinted in my mind, so I sought out the investigative journalist behind the report. Journalists traverse the darkness in search of light, all for the hope of putting the spotlight on injustices. Sometimes, their fights end in vain, and all they get in return is a sense of hopelessness. Even in broad daylight, darkness can show its fangs. Yet, journalists remain steadfast in their cause. This gave me the creative angle and idea for In Broad Daylight.

Lawrence Kan
Lawrence Kan, a distinguished alumnus of Vancouver Film School, embarked on his cinematic journey with his debut film “When C Goes with G7” in 2013. This initial foray into filmmaking earned him a spot in the “Hong Kong First” section at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival 2013, marking his entry into the film industry with acclaim. In 2021, Kan transitioned into television, directing the critically acclaimed series “In Geek We Trust.” The series not only captured audiences but also brought accolades to its cast, with Ling Manlung and Kaki Sham earning nominations for Best Rising Star and Best Supporting Actor, respectively, at the Busan International Film Festival’s Asia Contents Award—Ling Manlung clinching the Best Rising Star. Building on this momentum, in 2022, Kan directed his second feature film, “In Broad Daylight,” further solidifying his reputation as a filmmaker with a keen eye for compelling narratives and complex social themes.
