NO PLACE
IN THE WORLD

A documentary by Vanina Lappa

Country: Italy Year: 2024 Duration: 83 min. Language: Italian Subtitles: English

Directed by Vanina Lappa, “Nessun Posto al Mondo” tells the story of Antonio, a shepherd with an indomitable and free spirit, whose days unfold among the breathtaking views of Mount Cervati. Able to communicate only with his animals, Antonio often finds himself clashing with the rigidities of the human world. When he goes down to the valley, his fellow villagers accuse him of being a thief and scold him for not using a leash with his dogs, a choice that leads him to suffer bitter consequences. Antonio’s life suffers a serious blow when new municipal regulations prevent him from leading his herd on the Cervati, making the cost of grazing unsustainable. Determined to preserve his way of life, he attempts to purchase land to build a shelter for his animals, but runs into further bureaucratic obstacles that prohibit him from even installing a simple water system.

Isolated and misunderstood even by his fellow shepherds, Antonio finds himself increasingly a stranger among men. Despite adversity and the intensification of conflicts, his struggle to find a place in the world knows no respite. In the wild heart of nature, Antonio sees the last promise of freedom, a place where, despite everything, he hopes to belong. “No Place in the World” is a powerful and moving anthem to the search for identity and belonging in a world that often seems hostile.
